The role

We are looking to recruit an experienced child care lawyer to deal with their own busy case load of public law Children Act proceedings.

Experience of representing parents, other family members and children in public law proceedings is essential, together with a proven track record of managing a full and varied case load and undertaking advocacy in all levels of court. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced child care lawyer, looking for personal and career development opportunities in a small friendly firm that is one of the leading firms in Nottinghamshire specialising in family law.

The Role & Responsibilities:

• The successful person will demonstrate experience in dealing with all aspects of public law proceedings, to include care and supervision order proceedings, placement order proceedings, adoption and complex private children matters.
• You must be able to manage your own case load efficiently and with minimal supervision.
• You must be willing and able to undertake advocacy on your cases in all levels of court, to include contested hearings, and assist other colleagues within the department in conducting hearings on their behalf as required.

Candidate specification

Required Skills & Experience:

• Have experience of dealing with all aspects of public law proceedings, adoption and complex private law children matters.
• Be an accredited Children’s Representative with the Law Society.
• Have a proven track record of establishing close working relationships with professional clients including Children’s Guardians and the ability to establish a following in this area of work.
• Experience and knowledge of Legal Aid.
• Knowledge of Solicitors Accounting Regulations.
• A team player.
• The ability to support and work as part of a friendly team in a high street solicitors’ office.
• Willing and able to travel as required between offices and to court.
• Able to build and maintain good rapport with clients and other professionals, as well as provide clear and accurate advice.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• The ability to prioritise work to ensure that cases are progressed efficiently and in the best interests of the client, and emergency matters are dealt with urgently as required.
• Innovative and determined.
• A strong advocate who is willing and able to undertake advocacy in all levels of court, including contested hearings.

This is a full time permanent position.
