Maya Bhatiani

I am a solicitor and partner and have over 15 years of experience in family law, having worked exclusively in this area since qualification in 2011. I joined FM Family Law in July 2026, in order to open and head up the firm’s Bishop’s Stortford office.

I started my career in London, working in both city and national firms, and moving out to work in a national specialist family firm in the East Anglian counties around 4 years ago. I enjoy working with my clients in an empathetic manner, whilst providing them with the requisite knowledge to ensure that they feel empowered in their case. I aim to provide robust, practical and proactive advice, to enable clients to achieve the most suitable outcome for them and their family, in the most constructive manner possible. I aim to build long lasting relationships with my clients and to give pragmatic advice.

I specialise in private children matters and have particular expertise in cases in which fact finding hearings may be required and in the relocation with children, both internally within the UK and internationally. I am able to assist in matters concerning Specific Issue, Prohibited Steps and protective orders, Grandparent’s Rights and Special Guardianship orders.

I also specialise in all levels of financial matters, including cases in which third party interests are involved, or variation of existing orders are required. I particularly enjoy drafting and advising on nuptial and separation agreements and am also regularly instructed in cohabitation matters.

I am soon to be qualified to act for a couple jointly as part of the Resolution Together/ One Lawyer model and very much look forward to supporting couples in reaching amicable solutions together.
