Modern Family Law is an exciting area of law which is constantly evolving. This year in particular sees the Law Commissions’ surrogacy law reform proposals being finally released and the HFEA is also consulting on a reform of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act. Case law is often used to deal with individual circumstances where the law hasn’t kept pace with the myriad different ways that families can be formed.
Join us for an illuminating and informative day of case updates, a deep dive into the Law Commission recommendations, a discussion on posthumous conception and a first hand account from an intended parent who is a father of twins through US surrogacy.
As King J says, “An understanding of, and ability to make a proper [parental order] application complying with the provisions of the HFEA 2008 should be as much a part of the skills set of a competent general family practitioner as is a step parent adoption”. This course is therefore aimed at those who are new to this area and would like to do more modern family work and for those who are seasoned professionals wishing to update their knowledge.
