Session 4 overview – Honesty, integrity and objectivity when working with Litigants in Person
This session, lead by 33 Bedford Row family barrister Sapna Shah, will help you understand the essence of Resolution’s Code of Practice when working with Litigants in Person. Sapna will take you through the emotional and practical challenges faced by LiPs and provide strategies for improved collaboration.

Meet the trainer:
Sapna Shah
Sapna is a family barrister, holding a dual-capacity practising certificate. Her background includes navigating cases with Litigants in Person (LiPs), both in solicitor correspondence and in court. Drawing upon her past experience in criminal law where she conducted numerous jury trials, Sapna feels she has honed her communication skills to better equip her in dealing with LiPs.
Encountering LiPs on a weekly basis, she describes this aspect of her work as “challenging, but not insurmountable.” Sapna specialises in family law matters, including children, financial disputes, and Family Law Act cases. She places a strong emphasis on clear communication and rapport-building with colleagues and clients, recognizing the emotional intricacies of family law.
In addition to her practice, Sapna is a Middle Temple Advocacy Trainer, mentoring Bar School students in developing their courtroom skills.
