I have worked for many years for litigants, defendants and parents entering into civil dispute regarding their children. This may occur where there are difficulties in the parents relationship with each other, whether this be through separation, divorce or even living together. In my social work career spanning thirty years I have acted as a witness in court, prepared statements, mediated contact, and supported families and children who are subject to either private or public law.
This experience combined with my qualification as a UKCP child and adolescent Psychotherapist brings me into contact with those families seeking to resolve their differences before seeking to enter legal proceedings. Sometimes seeking resolution as a first step requires an understanding of many background factors. The unique pressures and stress which are experienced when this happens may require both a pragmatic and therapeutic approach.
- One to one Psychotherapy
- Parenting advice and support
- Mediation to reduce the harm that divorce and separation can have upon separated parents and their children
- Counselling and Psychotherapy for children and young people experiencing loss and confusion related to a change in family circumstances
- Reducing the harm that polarisation leading to blame and counter blame between parents can have upon decision making
- Conflict resolution and mediation between parents in dispute
- Contact between children and their separated parents from a child development perspective.
- Reframing discord through couples therapy.
