Family Law

Mr Sethi regularly represents parents in private law proceedings, including applications for child arrangement orders, prohibited steps orders, non-molestation orders and occupation orders and financial settlement.

His caseload typically includes cases featuring the following issues:

  • Domestic abuse
  • Substance misuse
  • Shared care/live with/contact
  • Relocation
  • Parental alienation
  • Prohibited Steps Order
  • Specific Issue
  • Fact-finding
  • Non-molestation and occupation orders
  • Financial settlement after divorce

Mr Sethi has experience of representing both Applicants and Respondents in non-molestation orders and occupation order applications bought under Part IV of the Family Law Act 1996. He has attended all levels of hearings, ex parte/ without notice, initial application ‘on notice’ hearings, return dates and contested final hearings.

He has worked with local and national charities and often assisted clients at very short notice. He has previously been nominated for local awards for assisting victims of domestic violence through work with the National Centre of Domestic Violence (NCDV) including sometimes on a pro bono basis when legal aid funding was not available. In 2014 he was nominated for a Public Service Award for this type of work in Lancashire and received a certificate. Mr Sethi has practiced this type of advocacy for many years and at almost every family court in Manchester, Lancashire and Beyond.

In additional to his busy Children Act practice, Ravi accepts instructions to assist clients with financial settlement proceedings after divorce. He is routinely instructed by clients to handle both issues arising out of separation and feels that offering clients continuity throughout both phases of their legal journey is important.

Public Law and Adoption

Mr Sethi acts for parents and on occasion the Children (Guardian) and the Local Authority  in public law family matters including interim removal hearings and contested final hearings and adoption proceedings. Mr Sethi has experience in drafting the associated written work including court orders, case summaries, opinions and threshold documents.
