Resolution has issued the below statement, in response to the Supreme Court’s judgment on transgender rights announced in May 2025.

Resolution says: ‘Members will be aware of the recent Supreme Court judgment on the meaning of ‘sex’ in the Equality Act 2010. The Equality and Human Rights Commission is updating its statutory and non-statutory guidance and, while this work is ongoing, has issued interim guidance on the practical implications of the judgment.

Resolution recognises that this may be a difficult time for the transgender community. We affirm our support for our trans members, who are a valued part of the Resolution community. We are committed to ensuring that they and all of our members, feel safe and included at Resolution.

Resolution remains committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive environment for the entire membership, and our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee have been working to identify areas of possible support.

We will continue to ensure our members are well-equipped to advise members of the trans community. Our Guidance Note on modern families provides a useful resource for members, included alongside many other Good Practice Guides and Guidance Notes as part of your membership. We will be updating this in light of the judgment and will provide members with any further guidance we identify in the future, via our weekly email bulletins and on our website.’
