National YRes Conference 2024

Bookings are now open for the National YRes Conference on Friday 8 November 2024 at the Hilton, Tower Bridge, London. If you are in the first ten years of practice within family law and a member of YRes, then this event is for you!

The National YRes Committee, the Resolution team and our exciting line-up of speakers are in the midst of preparing for what will be our fifth in-person National YRes Conference, taking place in November 2024. The conference is perfect for those looking to cultivate their skillset, learn from experienced leaders across the field, expand their knowledge, and meet others in the industry at a similar stage in their career. We hope to see you there!

We have worked hard to ensure that the day is fun, informative and diverse. There will be something for everyone, so please do get involved and book your tickets before it is too late!

The sessions include:

  • a talk from Joseph Rainer of QEB and Sarah Hoskinson of Burgess Salmon on ‘demystifying’ pensions and an update on PAG2 (and how to use PAG2 in and out of court)
  • a frank discussion on career insights and progression, including practical advice with Barbara Mills KC, Nigel Shepherd from Resolution Alumni and Oluwapelumi Amanda Adeola of BHP law
  • a review of the law on cohabitation rights with Dr Andy Hayward of Durham University and Nazia Rashid of Raydens Solicitors
  • an interactive workshop on wellbeing, coping with stress, and building resilience in your legal career, led by Dr Judith Mohring – a consultant psychiatrist with over 25 years’ experience
  • a breathwork workshop and how to use breathing techniques to calm, sooth or revitalise yourself, by Oliver Layton of Spira Breath
  • an update and session panel talk on the tips and traps of nuptial agreements, led by Georgina Howitt of 1 Hare Court and Amy Radnor at Farrer & Co

YRes is run by our members, for our members. We aim to bring together junior family practitioners to share experiences, develop ideas and skills, and encourage one another to thrive and grow in our professional careers. That is exactly what the YRes National Conference is about.

You will build professional relationships that benefit both you as an individual and your firm/organisation as a whole, and you will be provided with invaluable resources and updates to help enhance your career. If you want to expand your networks as well as your skills and knowledge, then National YRes Conference is a great place to start! We also want to hear from YRes members about the issues that matter to you most and what you feel YRes and Resolution should do more widely to address those, so this is your chance to get involved.

And don’t just take our word for it …

“I remember attending my first ever YRes event as a bright-eyed NQ Family Solicitor. People were friendly and some of the attendees I met are still close contacts to this day. Over the years of YRes conferences, I can recall always meeting new people, the helpful workshops applicable to both the technical aspects of family law but also to our softer (but just as important!) skills. Having attended these events throughout my career, I later joined the YRes National Committee, and I am particularly enjoying contributing to this invaluable conference going forward. Ultimately, it is aimed at the future practitioners of our industry”. Jessica Johnson, Associate, Mishcon de Rya LLP – National YRes Committee

“National Yres has been instrumental in my professional journey and it has been incredible to have the support and community of like-minded people working in family law. I have learnt so much from attending previous conferences and have met some truly wonderful people. These are just some of the invaluable benefits to attending. This year, we have worked hard to offer a range of sessions covering important latest legal developments, practical insights from expert and seasoned practitioners, and the development of professional skills, all of which will help to accelerate career growth. It is not one to miss and I hope to see you there!” Felicia Munde, Associate, Stewarts – National YRes Committee

“YRres provides a perfect springboard for our junior colleagues into the world of family law. The National YRes conference not only provides valuable updates and knowledge sharing on key areas of our practice, but it also gives training on different skills applicable to our day-to-day life as family lawyers and a unique opportunity to network and meet others in the industry. Those early relationships are so important for the rest of our careers, and I would encourage all of my junior colleagues attending to fully grasp the opportunity presented by these conferences”. Kate Clark, Head of the Family Law team, Mishcon de Reya LLP

“Attending the National Yres Conference offers young family lawyers an invaluable opportunity to not only expand their professional network but also gain critical insights into the latest legal issues and challenges. It’s the perfect platform to connect with other professionals, share ideas and develop the skills needed to thrive in a dynamic legal landscape”. Lisette Dupre, Partner in Divorce and Family, Stewarts

We realise attending an event like this for the first time can be more than a bit daunting, especially as it can sometimes feel like everyone already knows each other (they really don’t)! The YRes committee will be available to meet YRes members and welcome them. If you have any questions or would like to be linked up with a fellow attendee in advance, then please do get in touch and we would be more than happy to help (fmunde@stewartslaw.com and jessica.johnson@mishcon.com). It is a brilliant experience and an opportunity to spend time learning and networking in a relaxed, friendly environment.

We can’t wait to see you on the day!
