A fairer end to relationships

Resolution’s response to the Ministry of Justice.

Resolution has responded to the MOJ’s consultation on reforming financial remedies on divorce and strengthening protections for cohabitants at the end of their relationship.

Our response sets out our views on the proposals for reforming the law for cohabiting couples, including measures that could provide greater fairness and protection for families, particularly victims of domestic abuse.

This response has been prepared by members of our Finance, Pensions and Tax, Cohabitation and Domestic Abuse Committees, with contributions from our International Committee.

Resolution says: “We support reform across all three areas in the consultation and in broad terms support the scheme of what is proposed, subject to some suggestions and practical fine-tuning.”
