Family law practitioners are operating in a rapidly changing environment where the divorce rate has reduced, fewer people are accessing legal advice and the number of those representing themselves is increasing. Behind these changes is a nexus of social, economic and political factors that have informed the prevailing policy of successive governments and are shaping the legal sector more broadly. Given these developments, it’s essential that family law practitioners are focused on the challenge of how they will practise in the future.
