Jay Patel

Jay acts for high net worth individuals in divorce cases involving substantial and complex assets, including businesses, offshore assets and trust interests. He is also an experienced Children Act practitioner.

Jay has extensive experience in international work including child abduction and applications for permission to take children to live abroad, as well as in financial claims in respect of international assets. In particular Jay has worked closely with the Iranian and Indian communities.

In addition to his litigation practice Jay is a family mediator accredited by both the Law Society Family Panel and Resolution. As a mediator he assists separating couples in making important decisions with regard to the care of their children and their finances without recourse to Court proceedings.

With over 20 years’ experience in family law, Jay joined Lawrence Stephens Ltd as a Director and Head of their new Family Department in July 2021. He was a member of the steering committee for the Pensions Advisory Group and is a Spear’s 500 recommended family lawyer (2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021). He is also individually listed in Legal 500 and Chambers for Family and Mediation.
