Tom is a barrister and arbitrator at 1, Hare Court, Temple, London. Tom’s professional experience at the Bar has centred on the financial side of relationship and family breakdown, including financial remedy claims arising on divorce, claims made on behalf of children under Schedule 1, Children Act 1989, claims after overseas divorces, domestic and international enforcement, disputes under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996, the creation and interpretation of nuptial agreements and claims under the Inheritance (etc.) Act 1975.
Tom’s practice is now focussed on non-court dispute resolution, with particular emphasis on his role as an arbitrator under the IFLA Financial Scheme. Alongside his practice as an arbitrator, Tom is also regularly instructed to act as ‘judge’ within the ‘private-FDR’ process, assisting parties in reaching agreement in the course of financial remedy proceedings.
Before coming to the Bar, Tom graduated from Manchester University with a First Class Honours degree in Philosophy. He was awarded the Birkenhead Award from Gray’s Inn and undertook his pupillage at 1, Mitre Court Buildings (now 1, Hare Court). Tom has built up considerable experience in complex financial cases including those involving asset tracing, third party claims, off-shore trusts, contentious company valuations and international issues. His reported cases include: FB v PS  EWHC 2797 (Fam); Karim v Musa  EWCA Civ 1332; S v S (ancillary relief after lengthy separation)  EWHC 2339 (Fam); and Charalambous  EWCA Civ 1030.
