Resolution has responded to the Family Procedure Rule Committee’s consultation on the Revised Practice Direction 27A supplementing the Family Procedure Rules 2010.

It is the strong view of our members that no font should be required, or a default or even preferred. Most firms will have a house style or requirement – all will be clear and readable. Converting documents for court use seems to us to not be the most essential and necessary use of time.

Accessibility is not one size fits all. For example, the RNIB recommends sans serif fonts such as Arial but some other disability organisations say that Times New Roman is accessible for people with some disabilities. People choose the typeface that suits their particular needs (e.g. visual or Neuro diverse needs) and they should be able to do so.
