Supporting family justice professionals
Resolution is a membership organisation for family justice professionals committed to a non-confrontational approach.
Resolution’s community of practitioners
Resolution is an association of over 6,500 family justice professionals in England and Wales, who believe in a constructive, non-confrontational approach to family matters. Resolution also campaigns for improvements to the family justice system.
Resolution supports the professional development of those working in family justice through our national and regional training opportunities, publications and good practice guides, and our specialist accreditation scheme. Resolution also trains and accredits mediators and is the only body providing training and support for collaborative lawyers in England and Wales.
Living the Code of Practice
The cornerstone of membership of Resolution is a commitment to working in line with the Code of Practice, which sets out the principles of a non-confrontational approach to family matters.
Regularly updated Guides to Good Practice and Guidance Notes support Resolution members to integrate the Code into their day-to-day work. The guidance covers key areas of family law, such as fertility cases and cohabitation, as well as advice on working with litigants in person, drafting documents, correspondence and more.
Resolution’s specialist committees, run by members, regularly review developments in family justice and produce materials and resources to further support our members’ work.
Recognising excellence in family justice
Each year Resolution awards the John Cornwell Award to a family justice practitioner who has gone above and beyond in their service to separating families. The award, in honour of Resolution’s founding member John Cornwell, is presented each year at Resolution’s National Conference in the spring. Resolution also sponsors the family law category of the Legal Aid Lawyers of the Year awards.
Resolution also provides members with an opportunity to achieve specialist accredited status, to highlight special expertise and experience in family law (for lawyer members) and family finances (for financial adviser members). A spring and autumn accreditation round is held every year.
Developing the profession
Because Resolution is run for members by members, we are uniquely placed to offer the cutting edge training and learning opportunities for professionals. Regional groups can request bespoke training opportunities or organise their own courses and seminars. Resolution also publishes course material to allow members unable to attend in person to view the presentations and watch or listen to recorded events.
Resolution also provides networking opportunities at our conferences and through regional events, which allow members to develop their professional networks, share best practice and find trusted partners for client referrals.
