National Committee Elections 2026 – Meet the Candidates: Laura Clapton

I see this role as an opportunity to give back to an organisation that has shaped my practice and values.

Why do you want to apply to be on the National Committee?

Having completed my first term, I am even more motivated to continue contributing at National Committee level. My time on the Committee has given me valuable insight into how Resolution operates nationally and, crucially, how that connects with and supports our regions. I am passionate about strengthening that relationship so that regions feel empowered, supported, and able to thrive.

Resolution has been central to my professional journey—from YRes through to Regional Chair—and I see this role as an opportunity to give back to an organisation that has shaped my practice and values. I am particularly committed to ensuring broader representation on the Committee, including voices from the North of England and from smaller, regional firms.

I believe diversity of perspective leads to better decision-making, and I am keen to continue contributing to that at a national level.

What skills and experience will you bring to the role as a National Committee member?

As a co-founder of a niche family law and mediation practice in the North of England, I bring a perspective that is not always represented at national level. I understand first-hand the challenges and opportunities facing smaller, regional firms, and I am a strong advocate for ensuring their voices are heard.

My longstanding involvement at regional level, including as Regional Chair, has given me practical insight into how Resolution can best support its members locally. I am also an accredited mediator, and the principles of non-court dispute resolution underpin my daily work. This brings valuable skills to the Committee—collaboration, balanced decision-making, and the ability to navigate differing viewpoints constructively.

In addition, I am deeply committed to lawyer wellbeing. As a firm leader, I have implemented initiatives such as a four-day working week, and I am passionate about contributing to a more sustainable and supportive profession.

How have you been involved in and benefitted from Resolution as a member?

My involvement with Resolution spans my entire career, beginning as a trainee solicitor on my local YRes committee. Since then, I have co-chaired YRes, served on my regional committee, and later became Regional Chair before being elected to the National Committee.

Alongside committee roles, I have contributed as a speaker at both regional and national conferences, sharing knowledge and supporting the development of others within the profession. Resolution’s training has also been instrumental in shaping my practice, including areas such as hybrid mediation and Resolution Together, enabling me to evolve and better serve clients.

Perhaps most significantly, I have benefitted from the strong sense of community within Resolution. The relationships built through the organisation—both locally and nationally—have been invaluable. It is an organisation I am proud to represent and one I remain deeply committed to supporting.
