National Committee Elections 2026 – Meet the Candidates: Marc Etherington

I will ensure Resolution members locally are supported in the best way possible.
Why do you want to apply to be on the National Committee?
I want to be re-elected to make sure your voice continues to be heard at national level. Regions are the heartbeat of this organisation, and I will ensure Resolution members locally are supported in the best way possible.
I wish to see YRes members at the forefront of the decisions made by Resolution, because YRes is the future of our profession. It is imperative junior members feel supported during challenging times and have the right opportunities to grow and become the professionals they want to be. It is also important we hear the views of Associates.
Having been a collaborative lawyer for a numbers of years and planning to complete the Mediation Foundation Training this year, I will push training and development further to ensure more members are working in a more forward thinking family focused way.
What skills and experience will you bring to the role as a National Committee member?
I have been involved with Resolution for a number of years now, and this has helped me understand how Resolution works. This experience helps me understand how I can support members regionally and nationally.
As one of the more junior members of the National Committee, I have the added benefit of bringing fresh ideas to the Committee and have the interests of our YRes members at the forefront of my mind when decisions are made.
Having previously been open about the impact being a family justice professional had on my own wellbeing, I have sought to turn this challenging period in my life into a positive to make sure we as a Committee are making the welfare of our members a priority.
In keeping with the Resolution Code of Practice, on National Committee I will continue to listen and be respectful to others, and be kind.
How have you been involved in and benefitted from Resolution as a member?
I first became involved in Resolution as a student at Law School back in 2007 and was involved regionally in Hertfordshire until 2015. I joined the Parenting After Parting Committee and have contributed towards the two editions of Parenting Through Separation Booklet, to the benefit of members and separated parents.
I joined the YRes National Committee in 2018 and was Co-Chair for two years. I also helped create the Wellbeing Committee at Resolution, to make wellbeing a priority for the organisation. I was first elected onto the National Committee in 2023 and this has allowed me to travel to various regions across the country to deliver training and engage with members.
Being a member of Resolution has enabled me to practice in a way that adheres to the Code, which reflects my own values, and helps many families find solutions which benefit them.
