YRes Conference 2023: join us!

Bookings are now open for the National YRes Conference on Friday 10 November at County Hall, Westminster, London. If you are a member of Resolution in the first ten years of family practice, and whether this will be your first or fiftieth national or regional YRes event, we hope to see you there!

The National YRes Committee, the Resolution team and our talented line-up of speakers from across the world of family law are now fully in the throes of preparation for what will be our fourth in-person National YRes Conference. We have worked hard to ensure the day is informative and diverse, and hopefully there will be something for everyone. Sessions include:

  • A legal update on the range of issues facing modern families and particularly the LGBTQ+ community.
  • A discussion on fairness and cohabitation with the team who represented Mr Hudson in the (arguably controversial!) Court of Appeal decision of Hudson v Hathway [2022] EWHC 631 (QB), [2022] 2 FLR 1323.
  • A workshop on supporting clients through financial and technological abuse, with tips and tricks on how to navigate these challenging issues in a rapidly evolving area of life and the law.
  • Training on how to take your career to the next level with Specialist Accreditation and Collaborative Law qualifications.
  • A frank discussion about wellbeing and family law, during which senior family law practitioners will share and discuss their own personal experiences and the steps we can take to protect our own wellbeing and that of our colleagues. They’ll also take questions from and offer advice to conference attendees in a confidential and supportive environment.
  • A debate on the MCA 1973 – is it time for reform?

Above all, the conference aims to bring together junior family practitioners to share experiences, develop ideas and skills, and encourage one another to thrive. YRes is run by our members, for our members and so we also want to hear from YRes members on the issues that matter most to you and what you feel YRes and Resolution more widely should focus on over the coming year.

If you want to expand your networks as well as your skills and knowledge then the National YRes Conference is a great place to start! You will build professional relationships that benefit both you as an individual and your firm/organisation as a whole.

We realise attending an event like this for the first time can be more than a bit daunting, especially as it can sometimes feel like everyone already knows each other (they really don’t!). So, if you are considering attending but have questions and/or would like to be linked up with a fellow attendee in advance, please email us (ellen.wilkinson@mills-reeve.com; polly@familylawpartners.co.uk) and we would be more than happy to help.

And don’t just take our word for it on that – here are what some senior lawyers at our respective firms, Mills & Reeve and Family Law Partners, had to say about the benefits of attending National YRes Conference:
