News from the CEO: A pledge to the Code

You will hear a lot about the Resolution Code of Practice over the next few months, because 2025 is the Year of the Code – an initiative that aims to remind members about what being a part of Resolution really is all about: dealing with family matters in a constructive way, putting the needs of the family first. At the centre of that is your Code of Practice.

Over the next 12 months, we will be calling on you to play your part in highlighting the importance of the Code, and making sure members are aware of, and continue to adhere to, the vision and values of Resolution.

Back in January we asked members to take to social media, vowing to put the Code at the heart of their work, ensuring they deal with family matters in a constructive way. It was great to see so many of you nail your colours to the mast, and pledge to support the Year of the Code – making adherence your New Year’s Resolution.

Being a member of Resolution is not simply just “joining an organisation”.  An enormous part of it is that Code of Practice: a unifying way of working that all of our members sign up to and follow.

As the Code evolves and develops, so too does Resolution’s aim of pioneering new ways to help couples reach agreements. Last year, your responses to our Membership Survey highlighted the importance of innovative training opportunities that work hand-in-hand with the busy diaries and commitments of today’s family justice professionals.

New for this year we have launched a series of bitesize Lunch & Learn training, that puts elements of the Code of Practice front and centre. Our Lunch & Learn sessions are a big step in the right direction, as we establish how best to support today’s members with relevant training and events in 2025 and beyond.

There’s still plenty of time to make your pledge to the Code of Practice. Please do tell your social media followers that you’re proud to be a Resolution member and demonstrate your commitment to it. You will have received an email from us at the start of the year where you can access template posts and graphics to spread the word of the Year of the Code on your social media platforms.

Throughout the year, there will be many more opportunities to raise awareness of the Code, by registering on those Lunch & Learn sessions, downloading our newly published International Family Law Handbook, nominating somebody for a Resolution Award, and attending local and national events.

Every day our members go the extra mile to promote Resolution’s Code and the values which make us so unique. I have heard first hand, from so many of you, how the adoption of the Code has fundamentally changed the way family law is practised. It has a positive effect on individuals, couples and their children, and I couldn’t be more proud to be chief executive of an organisation that has such an impact on young people’s futures.

It is only by keeping the Code at the heart of everything we do that Resolution and its members will continue to transform the family justice landscape to meet the need of today’s modern families.
