National Conference takes over Manchester
Some 500 Resolution members came together for two days of engaging and informative updates, knowledge sharing and networking. The Resolution community heard from inspiring keynote speakers and dived into a variety of interactive workshops.
Resolution’s National Chair, Grant Cameron, welcomed delegates to National Conference. Grant highlighted the work of Resolution over the last 12 months, the important role the organisation plays in campaigning for change and why keeping the Code of Practice front and centre will ensure we can continue to transform the family justice landscape.
In an emotional and inspirational conversation with Samantha Hillas KC, our morning keynote speaker, Martin Hibbert, discussed his personal journey since the Manchester Arena bombing in May 2017. He told delegates how he looks after his mental health and wellbeing, as well as recounting his experiences working with the family justice system during a complicated separation.
Martin also explained how the attack caused him a “life changing, but not life ending” spinal injury, and spoke openly about his recovery, and his journey to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.
He said: “The Manchester Arena bombing was an awful night but I want it to be a catalyst for change and spread positivity and love. I want everyone to know that there is help available. To this day I live and work with depression, but it’s in my DNA to never give up, to keep on going.”
New for National Conference 2024, we ran a Parallel Workshop alongside our Finance and Children Updates. The session explored how trauma can manifest during the family law process. We also heard about the latest therapeutic techniques for supporting clients and practitioners with impacted by trauma and the importance of choosing the right professional for support.
Throughout the weekend delegates could choose to attend more than 15 workshops, providing practical insights on the latest trends and topics impacting the family justice community. Our workshops included:
- How can we best support parents in conflict?
- Is your law firm fertility friendly?
- Cohabitation reform: What might fair reform look like?
- Pensions on divorce – essential tips and current guidance
Thank you to all of our speakers, facilitators and exhibitors who put such hard work and passion into a fantastic National Conference 2024.
