What level of experience should I have?

Candidates for Accreditation should have the necessary knowledge and understanding and show in their assignments they meet the performance criteria outlined in the competence units.

You must also be able to demonstrate your understanding of, and practice within, the Resolution Code of Practice.

Lawyers

You should have undertaken a substantial level of work as a family law practitioner. As a guide, substantial can mean you:

  • Work solely as a family lawyer or the majority (80%) of your current practice is in family law
  • Have a minimum of 12 months’ experience before you take the Core Assignment
  • Have up-to-date knowledge and you are committed to your continuing professional development and competence

Financial Advisers

You should have undertaken a substantial level of work dealing with family financial matters. As a guide, substantial can mean you:

  • Completed six divorce, separation and other family finance focused cases in the last 12-18 months
  • Have experience of relevant financial planning, including pensions and investments related to family separation or divorce over the last three years
  • Worked closely with a specialist family lawyer or lawyers, collaborative practitioners, or mediators in the provision of client financial advice and planning services over the last three years
